Delicate Arch Guide

Delicate Arch: What to Expect + Trail Stats + Is It Worth It

Delicate Arch is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Utah, but getting to it takes more effort than most people expect.

It’s not technical, but it is exposed, and the conditions can make it feel harder than it looks on paper.

Quick Trail Facts

  • Distance: 3.2 miles round trip
  • Elevation Gain: ~480 ft
  • Time: 2 to 3 hours
  • Difficulty: Moderate

What It’s Actually Like

The hike starts easy, then quickly turns into open slickrock with little to no shade.

The sun is the real challenge here. Midday heat makes this hike feel much longer than it is.

The final section is where people slow down. A narrow path along the rock with a drop off on one side, leading to the arch.

Once you round the corner and see it up close, it’s different than the viewpoint. You’re standing right there under it.

What You Need to Know

Go early or late to avoid the heat.

Bring water. More than you think you need.

Watch your footing on the slickrock, especially coming down.

And expect crowds. This is one of the most visited hikes in the park.

Is It Worth It?

Yes.

Even with the crowds, it’s one of those places that lives up to it when you see it in person.

The key is going at the right time and knowing what to expect.

If You’ve Done It

Most souvenirs just say “Arches.”

This one is about the hike itself.

If you’ve stood under Delicate Arch, you know what it took to get there. That’s what this pin represents.
