This is one of the most talked about hikes in Zion for a reason. Narrow ridges, steep drop offs, and that final section with the chains. It’s not for everyone, but for the people who do it, it sticks with them.

What It’s Actually Like

The first part of the hike lulls you in a bit. It’s steady climbing, switchbacks, and a lot of sun exposure.

Then you hit Walter’s Wiggles. Tight switchbacks that feel never ending, but once you’re through, you reach Scout Lookout.

This is where the decision happens.

If you go on, you’re committing to the chains section. Narrow paths, steep drop offs on both sides, and sections where you’re holding onto chains to move forward.

It’s not technical climbing, but it is exposed. If you’re not good with heights, this part will test you.

Is It Worth It?

For a lot of people, this is a bucket list hike.

If you’re prepared, respect the trail, and know what you’re getting into, it’s one of the most memorable hikes in Zion.

If heights aren’t your thing, stopping at Scout Lookout is still a great experience and honestly a smart call.
